The problem here is that we as Americans have this tendency to generalize our experiences with racism, sexism, classism, etc.
When people complain that your social justice is too US-centric, it doesn’t mean they’re rebuking or shaming you for talking only about US issues. It means they have a problem with you talking about US issues as if they’re world issues. That can often be implicit, but it does not mean discursive damage has not been done.
